Karen & Steve's 14-Day Tour
Europe Through The Back Door
- 2008 -
Our next destination was Reutte Austria. On the way we stopped to enjoy a thrilling luge ride before arriving at our hotel.
Our stay in Austria included a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, the pilgramage Church In The Meadow and the tiny town of Fussen.
"No Karen, you can't go just one more time".
One concern that we had about taking this tour was the bus drives. We thought they'd be long and uncomfortable. But instead,
these drives were actually such rewarding parts of our experience. Not only did we take numerous stops along the way at
such interesting places but the ever-changing scenery was beautiful.
It was so easy to get caught up in the moment.
One of the stops we made on the way to Austria was in the small country of Liechtenstein for lunch.
Brian checking on his network performance in Liechtenstein.
Before arriving at our hotel, we had a slight detour to have some fun and experience the thrill of a luge ride down a hillside.
We arrived at our hotel in Austria with a little time to spare before having a wonderful Austrian dinner.
The next morning a few of us met outside the hotel where we began a four mile hike through the Bavarian woods to Neuschwanstein
castle.
From the trail, we could see our hotel disappearing in the distance as we headed deeper into the woods.
The long uphill climb was well worth the effort. Not only was the excercise good, but we experienced sights that we
would have otherwise missed like the boarder crossing into Germany, the beautiful alpine lakes and the castle itself as it appeared
like a Disney fantasy through the trees.
Middy joined us on the walk back down to the foot of Neuschwanstein castle. Once at the bottom we'd assemble as
a group and have a nice group lunch together before heading off to our next destination.
Our next stop was at the pilgrimage church of Wies. In 1738 tears were seen on a carved wooden statue of Jesus. This miracle
resulted in a pilgrimage to see the sculpture and this church was built to house the statue. Many people who have
prayed in front of the statue on the altar have claimed that they had been miraculously cured of their diseases.
Fussen, Germany a quaint little shop-'till-you-drop kind of town sits on the banks of the Lech river. It was our next
destination and very enjoyable stop it was. Colors and shapes of structure were once again so pleasing to the eye.
This town also had so many fascinating shops that specialized in clothing specifically for Oktoberfest and they were busy. How
exciting it must be during Oktoberfest.
Lou is ready to hit the road again.
From the moment we stepped inside this small church of white & gold we were emotionally moved. You couldn't
help but to feel the holy-ness.
Enjoying lunch at an outdoor cafe in Liechtenstein.
The castle was filled with circular staircases and windows from which we could see for miles.
